Top Three Reasons to Choose the Piedmont Surgery Center

Jessi Hammond is the Director of the Piedmont Surgery Center. Before coming to Piedmont, Jessi  obtained a B.S.N. from Jacksonville University and worked in a large hospital setting for eight years. After gaining experience in the ER, pre-op, PACU and pre-admission, Jessi was named Clinical Coordinator for a 48-bed ER and 10-bed CDU. She accepted a position with Northside Coliseum Hospital in 2008, where she was in charge of pre-admission and pre-op. She has served as the Director of the PSC since 2012.

According to Jessi, patients often want to know what the benefit is to having their surgery at a smaller, private facility like Piedmont versus a large hospital. For Jessi, the reasons are plentiful, but these are her top three:

The Nurse to Patient Ratio For the majority of the time each patient is in the surgery center - particularly before, during and immediately after the surgery - the ratio is always one nurse to one patient. Surgery can be an intimidating experience, but having a dedicated medical professional by your side the entire time enables patients to relax since they know and trust their nurse. Experienced Staff Not only is the care hyper-attentive, each member of the PSC staff was handpicked for their skill and experience. This close-knit group of medical professionals work together as a team to provide the best possible experience for patients on a daily basis. Although most surgeries at PSC go as planned, PSC nurses have many years of experience in emergency care, including emergency room nurses, ICU critical care nurses and paramedics, who are specially trained to handle any type of situation. These nurses and staff have specifically chosen to leave the hospital setting in order to provide more personal care for each patient at Piedmont. Follow-Up Care In keeping with Piedmont’s mission to provide exceptional service and care, the surgery center works with the clinic to offer the best in follow-up care. Sometimes patients have specific questions after their surgery that they don’t think of until after they get home. Each patient is given a contact number they can call at any time, day or night, with questions related to their surgical experience. One of Piedmont’s knowledgeable nurses or physician’s assistants will be happy to provide both answers and advice.
